Son of William T. Bennett (1791-1866) and Jane Vannatta (1798-1887)

Married to Louise J. Cartwright - daughter of Asbury Cartwright. Family legend has it that she died in childbirth with their one and only child and so did the child. This happened on August 27, 1864 and he never remarried.

According to what was written about him in a book written by Muriel Bennett Minium he returned to visit his relatives in Arkansas when he was an old man in 1903 or 1904. He was on his way to the St. Louis World's Fair (so the story goes) and he wanted to visit his relatives along the way. This would have been about six or seven years before he passed away.

One of his young female relatives said of him, when he visited her family, that he was "80 or 85 years of age" (he was actually about 75 at that time). She also said that he "was very wealthy and had a nephew as a valet - Jimmie Bennett - about 23 years old and very handsome and well educated". She said Brance was a good looking man, too. She also related that he died a few years later and that he "left his wealth to his housekeeper and her son" and she said that "this woman was a relative of Brance's". That woman was his sister-in-law.
