KEEN - Rosalie Mabel Keen, daughter of Edmund Henry and Nancy (Newman) Keen, was born June 17, 1871 in Lucas County, Iowa. Her death came at the McCollum Nursing Home on Monday, Oct. 17, 1966, at the age of 95 years and four months. She had entered the home in February, 1960.

She grew to womanhood in English township. She taught school a short time and later learned the millinery trade and was employed in the Smythe Dry Goods Store and later the Palmer Department Store in Chariton, until she gave up her work to assist in the caring for her aged parents on their farm in English township.

After their deaths she resided in Chariton on Linden Avenue and engaged in practical nursing as long as her health would permit. She was ever ready to lend a helping hand to her relatives and others in need. Although advanced in years and frail in body, she was alert in mind and was privileged to have good eyesight and hearing.

She was a member of the English Township First Presbyterian Church and later transferred her membership to the First Presbyterian Church in Chariton. She loved to read and prepared her Sunday school lessons as long as she was able. Daily Bible reading was a part of her life. She kept informed on world affairs as well as current events here.

She suffered a broken hip in October, 1965 but made a remarkable recovery and was able to walk again.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Bertha Van Devender of Basin, Wyo., and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and six sisters.

Services were conducted Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. William D. Osick officiating. Interment was at the Chariton cemetery.
