He was born in Ste. Rose, Laval, Quebec and had 3 brothers and 2 sisters: Joseph, Jean-Baptiste, Vital, Justine and Valerie. His parents were Charles DesJardins & Angelique (Angeline/a) LaBelle. He married Mary Elizabeth Capron on June 11, 1861 in Attleboro, MA, where they also took up residence until their deaths. They had 5 children: Mary Ada, Catherine Valerie, Bertha Horatia, Charles (born and died the same day in 1880) and Charles Leon. He married a second wife, Lillian McRae on May 30, 1883 in Attleboro, MA.
Charles' gravestone has the year of death incorrect. It states 1912, should be 1911. He died of Apoplexy resulting from Senile Arterial Schlorosis. He is buried in the same plot as his wife, his daughter Mary Ada DesJardins Williams, her husband Charles Henry Williams, their g-son Charles Roger Williams and his wife Helen Starr Randall Williams. Also, his son Charles Leon and Charles B.'s 2nd wife, Lillian F. McRae.

He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) was a fraternal organization composed of veterans of the Union Army who served in the American Civil War. The GAR was among the first organized advocacy groups in American politics. It was succeeded by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW).
The star emblem at his gravestone symbolizes the GAR.
