Dermot was born on Oct. 26, 1915, the beloved son of Thomas G. and Mary Bernadette Faulkner.
He married Mildred (June) Attridge on March 8, 1945, in London, England. She survives in Nauvoo.
Additional survivors include: two daughters, Sheila Walckner and her husband, Ed, of Nauvoo, and Mary Ellen Moorad and her husband, Calvin, of Modesto, Calif.; grandchildren, Joe Wilson Jr., Kevin Wilson, Jennifer Jertberg and her husband, Jeff, Allyson Warlaumont and her husband, Gavin, Greg Moorad, Stacy Prskalo and her husband, Gregg, Colleen Newberry and her husband, Jeremy, Amanda Kelly, Maureen Krell and her husband, Nathan, Nicole Gilhooly and Monique Lebowski and her husband, Ken; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sons: John D. Kelly, M.D., Kevin Kelly, Thomas Kelly and Michael Shane Kelly; a daughter, Maureen Kelly; sisters: Dorothy Baxter, Rosaleen Scharf, Ann Kelly, Lelia Lewis, Eileen Horton, Nora Yager and Claire Dingman; a brother: Kevin Kelly; a granddaughter, Kelly Jo Wilson, in infancy, and a great-grandson, Riley Joseph Wilson, at birth.
He graduated from Nauvoo-Colusa High School. He served in the United States 82nd Airborne Glider Trooper Division during World War II, serving from 1941 to 1945. He served in Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe battles and campaigns. He received many medals, including an American Defense Service Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, a Bronze Star Medal and three Bronze Battle Stars. He also received six Overseas Service Bars. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the VFW.
He enjoyed fishing, boating and hunting. He also enjoyed playing cards, especially pitch.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Nauvoo Catholic Cemetery. A full military graveside service will be conducted by Hamilton VFW Post 5256. A Masonic service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday by Blackhawk Masonic Lodge.
