Son of Elisha Weatherford Touchberry Long and his second wife, Mary Martha McKinnon.

Husband of Minerva Victoria McCaskill. They married on April 1, 1896, in Montgomery County, North Carolina, and became the parents of at least 12 children.

--------------------------------

Note: This researcher is of the opinion Nimrod was born in April 1870, not 1871, and that he is the same child found with Martha McKinnon in July 1870.

Martha is enumerated in the 1870 US Federal Census as a single woman with 3-month old "Rodrick" born in April. She is listed as a pauper. E. T. Long and Martha McKinnon married on March 12, 1874. Subsequent censuses record their first child as "Nimrod". Early census records through 1900 indicate Nimrod was born in 1870.

A second son was born to Martha and Elisha on January 5, 1872, which is less than nine months after April 10, 1871. Two subsequent children were born at 2-year intervals. A sequence of births in 1870-1872-1874-1876 starting with Rodrick/Nimrod would fit this pattern.

Finally, there is the similarity of the names Rodrick and Nimrod. All this points to one person.
