*In Honor of a Firefighter, died in line of duty*
-Les Clark-
Leslie Leonard Clark, of Brinktown, was born December 31, 1930, a son of Clarence Raymond and Wiona (Terwilliger) Clark and departed this life at 6:10 P.M., Thursday, January 20, 2011 near his residence at Brinktown. Mr. Clark had attained the age of 80 years and 19 days.
Mr. Clark was united in marriage on November 6, 1954, at Rich Fountain, to the former Miss Lydia Marie Pope, and to this union, four children were born. He was preceded in death by his father in October of 1988; his mother on January 9, 1969; one brother, Clarence Steven "Steve" Clark on April 18, 2004; four step-brothers, Euell Crum in 1997, Chesley Owen Crum on February 7, 2001, Clyde Crum and BeBe Crum; and one step-sister, Rose Marie Lucas.
Mr. Clark was a member of the Camp Ground Christian Church, Meta. He was a member of the Dixon Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years and at the time of his passing was the Captain of the Brinktown branch.
Mr. Clark had been a bus driver for the Maries R-I Schools and had served as a school board member. He was the owner and operator of Clark's TV, Brinktown, as well as being a farmer in Maries County. Mr. Clark enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing and being with his family.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Clark include: His wife, Lydia Clark of the home at Brinktown; three sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Tammy Clark, Brinktown; Dave and Helen Clark, Eucha, Oklahoma; and Michael and Lavondia Clark, Vienna; one daughter, Tina and Mike Steinman, Argyle; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Floyd and Edith Clark, Murphysboro, Illinois; Verlin and Geraldine Clark, Water Valley, Kentucky; Howard and Doris Clark, Dixon; and Donley and Delores Clark, Columbia; three step-brothers, Bob, Lloyd and Ross Crum; one step-sister, Donna Bush; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted for Mr. Clark at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday morning, January 25, 2011 in the Knights of Columbus Hall, Vienna, with Bro. Manuel Seaton, Camp Ground Christian Church, Meta, officiating. Favorite musical selections were played for the funeral service. Interment was in the Holy Guardian Angels Cemetery, Brinktown, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Active pallbearers for Mr. Clark were Zachary Clark, Rocky Clark, Matthew Clark, Shane Steinman, Matthew Mertens, and Kevin Schwartze. Honorary pallbearers were the Dixon Volunteer Fire Department.

Jay Nixon has ordered that the flags of the United States and the State of Missouri at all state government buildings in Maries and Pulaski counties be flown at half-staff on Tuesday (Jan. 25) in honor of Captain Leslie Leonard Clark, a firefighter with the Dixon Rural Fire Protection District.
Captain Clark died in the line of duty on Jan. 20 while serving the citizens of the Dixon Rural Fire Protection District. He was a 19-year service veteran who served as station captain for the district's Brinktown Station.
Under Gov. Nixon's order, U.S. and Missouri flags at state buildings in Maries and Pulaski counties will fly at half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Tuesday, the day the funeral services for Captain Clark will take place.

DIXON, Mo. — A Missouri firefighter died Thursday after suffering a medical emergency while on duty.
Dixon Rural Fire Protection District Volunteer Fire Captain Leslie "Les" Clark, 80, was driving a tanker to the scene of a reported structure fire when he warned a crew member he felt he might pass out and lost consciousness. The other firefighter reached over and stopped the apparatus with the air brake. Firefighters removed Captain Clark from the vehicle and began CPR, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
