Sequoyah Hunt Brown, known as "Squaw" Brown to his friends, died March 4, 2000. He was 92 years old. Born on September 28, 1907 in Fort Gibson, OK, he earned a B.A. and L.L.B. from Tulsa University and an additional degree from the Advanced Management Program of the Harvard Graduate School of Business. He and his wife, Nell were recipients of the Centennial Award from the University of Tulsa for outstanding alumni achievement. He spent 37 years with Standard Oil of New Jersey (Exxon) subsidiaries including Carter Oil Company, Personnel Department, Tulsa, OK; Interstate Oil Pipeline Co., Director and Vice President, Shreveport, LA; Humble Oil Pipeline Co., Director and Vice President, Houston, TX; and Exxon Pipeline Company, Director and Vice President, Houston, TX. After retirement he served as a Consultant for Morgan Stanley-Dean Whitter Co. for 28 years. He served on the Board of Directors for the following firms: Creole Petroleum Co. of Caracas, Venezuela; Yellowstone Pipeline Company of Bozemann, MT; Plantation Pipeline, Atlanta, GA; Alyeska Pipeline, Juneau, AK; Norwelea Boy Scouts of America, Shreveport, LA: YMCA, Shreveport, LA; Petroleum Club, Houston, TX. He was an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Shreveport, LA and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Houston. He was also a member of the Cherokee Nation. He is survived by: his sons, Robert S. Brown and wife, Alice of Destin, FL, Timothy R. Brown and wife, Suzanne of Houston, TX; and 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife
of 62 years of marriage, Nell Wood Brown. The family is grateful to his caregivers who provided wonderful care, assistance and prayers. Funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 8, 2000 at First Presbyterian Church, 5300 Main, Houston with Dr. John Wm. Lancaster officiating. Private entombment will follow at Memorial Oaks Mausoleum.
