Cecil Emmett Ashburn, age 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died on Tuesday, March 20, 2007, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, after a short illness.
He was born September 19, 1 923 at Garnett, Kansas, the son of Jacob and Olive Showalter Ashburn. Cecil graduated from Garnett High School in 1943.
He married Freda O'Neal on November 20, 1943 in Kansas City, Missouri. This union was blessed with a daughter, Celia.
He lived and worked as a carpenter in Kansas City for 30 years before moving to rural Garnett in 1973. He was an avid mushroom hunter and enjoyed fishing. He was a good friend and neighbor with a great sense of humor. In 2000 they moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to be near their daughter and her family.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Olive Ashburn; four brothers and five sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Freda of the home; a daughter, Celia McAfee and her husband Duane of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a grandson, Kevin McAfee of Chicago, Illinois; a granddaughter, Megan McAfee, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and 41 nieces and nephews. (D.A.E.)
