Funeral services for Opal Vivian Mahon, 82, of Eudora, Kansas will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 30, 1996 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Mrs. Mahon died Friday, April 26, 1996 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas. She moved to Eudora in 1976 from Shawnee, Kansas.
She was born October 29, 1913 in Garnett, Kansas the daughter of Jake and Olive Showalter Ashburn.
She was the owner and operator of theMerriam Restaurant of Merriam, Kansas from 1945-1950. She then worked for the Shawnee Mission Schools as a cook from 1966 until she retired in 1976.
She was an avid fisherman, she was also an avid Kansas City Royals Baseball fan. She loved her grandchildren.
She was married to John Lester Mahon on September 10, 1932. He died November 8, 1989.
She is survived by her daughter, Pat Shawbaker of Eudora, Kansas; one brother, Cecil Ashburn of Liberty, Missouri; one sister, Beverly Potter of Garnett, Kansas; two grandchildren, Tamara and Brad; and 5 great-grandchildren, Brett, Easton, Christie, Jennifer, and Mickayla Opal.
The family suggest memorial contributions to Hospice of Douglas Count and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. (D.A.E.)
