Leaves Family Which Includes Well-Known Artist in East.
[Special to The Evening Telegraph.) ALAMO, Mich., March 4.—John N. Ransom, a prominent man of this vicinity, died Sunday morning at 11:20 o'clock at his home, a mile north and east of the village. He was 67 years of age. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock form the home. A wife, three sons and a daughter survive Mr. Ransom. The daughter, Mrs. Frank Scott, lives in Plainwell; two sons, John W. and Martin N. live at home, and the third, Fletcher C. Ransom, is a prominent artist, whose sketches appear in several of the prominent magazines, makes his home in New York. Mr. Ransom came to Michigan in 1843 with his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Fletcher F. Ransom and settled on the farm he now calls home. He has been very successful in business and has accumulated a fortune, having 1,000 acres of fine farming land, besides varied interests in other lines. He is president of the Citizens' State bank of Plainwell. He was at one-time supervisor of Alamo township. The Ransoms have always been prominent among the families of Michigan and have held a high place in the regard of the citizens of the state. Dr. Ransom, father of the deceased, was a leader in his profession and a doctor of the old school. His uncle, Hon. Epaphroditus Ransom, was governor of Michigan in 1847-8.
