Colonel David Haar from Macdill loses his life to natural causes

MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. - A commander at the MacDill Air Force base lost his life on Thursday.

A release from the base said that Colonel David Haar, the commander of the 6th maintenance group at MacDill, died from natural causes.

According to his biography, he joined the Air Force through the ROTC program at the University of Notre Dame in 1989.

As the commander, he managed all aircraft and munitions maintenance for aircrafts.

He also oversaw the generation, repair, and sustainability of aircrafts that supported worldwide aerial refueling, airlift, and special assignment missions for US and allied forces.

"Colonel Haar's life and service has left a significant impact on
this base, and on behalf of the MacDill family I want to thank everyone for their expressions of sympathy during this time of sorrow," said Col. Lenny
Richoux, 6th Air Mobility Wing commander.

Haar is survived by his wife Teri, and his two daughters Melissa and Elizabeth.
Command Post Tampa would like to extend condolences to the folks over at the 6th Air Mobility Wing, who lost one of thier own Thursday.

Col. David Haar, the commander of the 6th Maintenance Group at MacDill AFB died Jan. 20, from natural causes, according to a release from the base.

"The men and women of MacDill Air Force Base extend our deepest condolences to Col. David Haar's family and to all those affected by this loss," according to the release.

"Colonel Haar's life and service has left a significant impact on this base, and on behalf of the MacDill family I want to thank everyone for their expressions of sympathy during this time of sorrow," said Col. Lenny Richoux, 6th Air Mobility Wing commander.

As the commander, he manages all aircraft and munitions maintenance for the 6 AMW and its tenant units. He oversees the generation, repair, and sustainment of 16 KC-135R/T, and 3 C-37 aircraft supporting worldwide aerial refueling, airlift, and special assignment missions for US and allied forces, as well as, providing direct support to the Unified Combatant Commander, United States Central Command.

Colonel David M. Haar is a recent graduate from the Air War College, Maxwell AFB Alabama.

Colonel Haar entered the Air Force in 1989 through the University of Notre Dame ROTC program, where he was a distinguished graduate. He has held positions at the wing, center and major command. As an aircraft maintenance officer, he has experience with the B-1B, KC-135, RJ-135U/V, and C-130E/H/J working in both the flight line, back shop and quality assurance environment. While at Wright-Patterson he served as an acquisition logistics engineer. Colonel Haar has deployed multiple times in support of Operation DESERT STORM, ENDURING FREEDOM, and IRAQI FREEDOM.

Colonel Haar is married to Teri, and has two daughters Melissa and Elizabeth
