ST. JOSEPH, La. - Services for Burton Oliver Berry, 85, of St. Joseph, who died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Art Baker and Kibbie Hatfield officiating. Burial will be in the Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.

Berry was born July 5, 1915, in Tensas. He was a life long resident of Tensas Parish, a graduate of LSU, a Navy veteran of World War II, serving his country as a lieutenant aboard the USS Texas. He had owned and operated St. Joseph Elevator Co. since 1949, was a member of St. Joseph Rotary Club, charter member of Lake Bruin Country Club, member of First United Methodist Church and Cross Keys Bank Board member since 1971.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Sadler Berry of St. Joseph; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jan Burnside and Frank Burnside of Newellton and Beth Berry of Monroe; two brothers, Fred Berry of Longview, Texas, and Burton Berry of Monroe; one granddaughter, Berry Burnside of Newellton; one grandson, Rob Burnside of Newellton; five nephews; and nine nieces.

Pallbearers will be Mack Lancaster, Rob Lancaster, Hank Rabb, Sonny Simmons, David Stiles, Scott Watson, Jimmy White and Pat Williams.

Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Burnside, Jimmie Crigler, Carneal Goldman, Harry Goldman, Jack Grace, Robert James Lancaster, Robert Manning, William Wade Watson, Carter Webb, Charles Williams and Philip Watson.
