Gifford, as reported in Saturday's Record as having met with an accident on Friday evening by being thrown from his buggy, breathed his last about half-past 9 o'clock on Saturday evening. Mr. Gifford located with his family in Colusa county, but after a short residence there removed to Chico in 1869-70, where he resided until the time of his death. The funeral of the deceased took place this afternoon at half-past one o'clock, from his late residence on Wall street, under the auspices of Chico Commandery. Rev. E. Graham preached an appropriate sermon, the friends were allowed to view the remains, and the funeral procession was formed. The cornet band led, followed by the Sir Knights, next came the hearse, drawn by four black horses, and then the relatives of the deceased, followed by members of the Masonic fraternity and of the A.O.U.W. The procession was the largest ever seen in Chico, notwithstanding that rain was falling pretty heavy. At the grave the beautiful and impressive services of the Knights Templar were performed.
