MESA, Ariz. — Homer E. Samples, age 83, of Flossmoor Ave., Mesa, Ariz., died Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at his residence, with his family by his side.
Born Oct. 12, 1924, in Charleston, W.Va., he was the son of Elijah and Martha (Givens) Samples, and was a resident of the Jefferson area most of his life, before moving to Mesa, Ariz., 26 years ago.
A Veteran of the U. S. Army, he served in World War II. He was a heavy equipment operator, working in construction most of his life.
Homer was a former member of the Jefferson Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include his wife, Rose (Wladyka) Samples; two children, Roseann (Jay) Taylor and Larry Ellis (Barbara) Samples, both of Mesa, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Malissa Malugani of Dallas, Tex., Amy Malugani of Washington, D. C., Keith and Lori Samples, both of Mesa, Ariz.; four step-grandchildren, John (Annie) Caliendo of Gilbert, Ariz., Kim Caliendo of Scottsdale, Ariz., and David Taylor and Jeff Taylor, both of Ashtabula; one great-grandson, Jake Smith; four step-great-grandchildren, Kariane and Anthony Caliendo and Jaclyn and Justine Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and three sisters.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m., Monday, June 2, at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Dr. Jack Davis of the Jefferson Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Geneva Post #6846 of the VFW will provide full military honors at the graveside.
