Donald E. Alban of County Highway 59, Nevada, died at 8:48 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Toledo. He was 80. Born in Crane Town-ship on March 17, 1923, he was a son of Ralph and Hazel W. (Gibson) Alban. He married Mary Jean McDaniel on Sept. 16, 1962, in Union United Methodist Church. She survives. Also surviving are a sister, Clarice Harris, Morral; and many nieces and nephews. A 1941 graduate of Harpster High School, Mr. Alban was a farmer and also raised cattle. He retired from farming in 1995. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the liberation of Luzon in the Philippines. He received the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge. He attended Emanuel United Church of Christ in rural Upper Sandusky, and served as a deacon, elder, church treasurer and Sunday school superintendent. Mr. Alban was a life member and past commander of the Robert Cast Post No. 462 American Legion in Nevada, and was secretary and board member of the former Nevada Farmers' Grain Association. He was a member and past secretary of the Nevada Lions Club, former member and past chancellor commander of Nevada Lodge No. 234 K of P and served on the central Republican Committee in Antrim Township. Mr. Alban was a member of the Farm Bureau Council 8-B, and was a baseball fan who loved to watch and read books on baseball. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Emanuel United Church of Christ with the Revs. Adrian Sunday and Cathy Wirth officiating. Burial will follow in Nevada Cemetery. Visitation is at Lucas Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. and for an hour at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be made to the church or the organization of the donor's choice in care of Lucas Funeral Home, PO Box 207, Upper Sandusky OH 43351.
