Henry Voelker, Jr. parents were Henry Sr. and Martha Schroeder, both born in Germany. Henry Jr. immigrated to the United States in 1870 with his older brother John Voelker. John became frustrated with the way his last name was being pronounced and therefore changed it to "Felker". This change would forever separate the two brothers, when Henry married Bertha Michaels in New York and moved to Wilmington, DE.
