age 80, formerly of Country Elms Estates, Galesburg, Ill., died at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, January 23, 2011 in the Knox County Nursing Home.
Thomas was born on June 22, 1930 in Galesburg, the son of Roy E. and Ruth Applegren Webber. He married Norma Atteberry on December 11, 1954. He later married Shirley Cummings on September 5, 1981 in Knoxville, Ill. Shirley preceded him in death on June 24, 2000.
He is survived by three daughters, Melinda (and Gary) Webber-Johnson of Galesburg, Diana Webber of Galesburg and Julie (and John) Garcia of Houston, Texas, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Thomas attended Galesburg High School, graduating in 1949. He enlisted in the US Army in 1950 and served in Germany during the Korean War. He received the Army Occupation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
He was employed with Gunther Construction before becoming a supervisor for Gates Rubber Company. He later worked in security for Mattel Toys in Texas before moving back to Galesburg and working at the Dick Blick Company.
Thomas was a member of the Knoxville American Legion Post #749.
Cremation will be accorded. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, January 27, 2011 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel in Galesburg. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites provided by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
