Olive Metz Bean, 97, of Metz community, Mannington, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at home. She was born Dec. 31, 1903, in a log house on the family farm at Metz, daughter of the late Prince Metz and Maude Holbert Metz Horner. She graduated from Mannington High School in 1922, and was a 1933 nursing school graduate of the former Cook Hospital in Fairmont. She was postmaster of the Wadestown Post Office from 1953-73. She enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing and visiting with friends on her front porch. She was a member of West Warren Baptist Church at Wadestown and also attended services at First Century Church, Metz. She is survived by three sons and a spouse, Jesse Lee Bean Jr., of Metz, Joseph C. and Alice J. Bean, of Fairmont, and Samuel E. Bean, of Metz; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Tennant, of Metz. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jesse L. Bean Sr., on May 7, 1978; a sister, Opal Leone "Tude" McMunn Tate; two brothers, Samuel Tazwell Horner and Virgil Martin Horner; and her stepfather, Jasper Horner. Friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, in Mannington, from 3:30-8 p.m. Sunday. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24, with the Rev. Bill Coon officiating. Burial will be in Wadestown Cemetery.
