Lula worked in the phone business along with her father, mother, brothers and sisters. Everyone pulling their share of the work as the phone lines were being raised across Tennessee and Kentucky.

Even when she married John Boston (Boss) Brindley and they started out in their married life ,he too worked on the lines while they set up a switchboard in their home in Chestnut Mound ,Tn and she took shifts being a operator along with her mother Susan and sisters.

They started having their own family and came the time where they had to start helping with Boss's elderly family, so they built a house on the Brindley Hollow Rd and set up housekeeping. Lula doing her part to take care of his mother and his grandmother. After a year there was a fire at the home and John grabbed his daughter Blanche ,bed all and escaped the fire along with Lula but they lost everything they owned.

Lula being the determined and hard working person she hitched up the horse team and went to work selling household items from door to door. For everything she sold she earned items for herself, in no time she got blankets dishes, oil lamps and a host of other things for her family.

During this time the couple moved themselves and the children in the Big Brindley house. John long ago was given the big house but wanted the elderly ladies to have their privacy. At this house life had change for the elderly ladies because the house came to life . Lula played the piano and friends and family would come for cook outs and they would roll up the carpets and the dancing would begin.

Her daughter Blanche said they would sneak out of bed and sit at the top of the stairs ,listening to the music and laughter. The elderly family would tap their feet along with the music, folks would later say, there was lots of happiness in that house.

The regular visitors were the Cowen's (Cowan's) (Boss's family),the Ditty's again family, Dr Gross, Mr. White and family. Mr White felt right at home because Lula learned sign language so that she could speak with him.

Happiness and sorrow visited this home many times and Lula in the end never had the chance to raise her children, she passed away when her youngest baby Raymond was just 18 mo's old so he had no memories of his mother, a job her mother Susan would try to take over for some time.
