Mr. Miller was the son of Ward and Margaret Phillips Miller. He worked as a lumberman, and coal miner for many years. Later, he was employed by the West Virginia Department of Highways where he worked for several years. He also enjoyed farming and raising livestock. Earl and his wife Leotta Taylor had four children; Junior, Howard, Jerry, and Joe Anne. Earl was a trustee of the Phillips Cemetery at Jimtown. He took over his uncle Abe Phillips' role of marking off new graves.
