JAMES H. ALLINGHAM
---James H. Allingham, well known La Plata citizen, was found dead in his home in the southwest part of La Plata Thursday evening about 5:30 with a bullet wound in his right temple. The body was found in the bedroom of his home with a gun across his knees. Notes addressed to his friends and relatives were found on a table nearby in which he said that his business affairs were in good shape and that no one was to blame for his act.
---Mr. Allingham, who was well to do, had lived alone for several years. When no one saw him about his house, Mrs. Mercer, a neighbor woman, went over to see about him. No one responded to her knock but she noticed a light in the basement. She opened the door and called to him and when he failed to answer she went into the bedroom and found the body. Dr. C.H. Buckley was called and after examining the body declared he had been dead several hours. Dr. W.H. Gooch of Elmer, Macon County Coroner, was summoned and pronounced it a case of suicide.
---James H. Allingham, son of Horatio C. and Sarah Whitman Allingham, was born Februaary 17, 1865 near Cameron, Warren County, Illinois, and died December 19, 1935 at his home in La Plata, Missouri, being at the time of his death, seventy years, ten months and two days of age.
---March 9, 1887 he was united in marriage to Miss Pearl Robinson. To this union one child was born, a son, Otis E., who died May 29, 1921. On March 23, 1893, he was married to Alta May Porter. No children were born to this union.
---On February 15, 1906, Mr. Allingham moved to his farm south of La Plata where he lived until September 16, 1926, when, with his invalid wife, he moved into the new home in La Plata. Mrs. Allingham lived only one year after their coming to their new home. For ten years he watched constantly over his wife, stricken with paralysis, doing all that his loving hands could do.
---He was a member of the board of directors of the La Plata State Bank and former president of the Farmers and Merchants Bank.
---He was the younger of a family of eight children, of whom are living except one sister, Mrs. Florence Mabel Porter of Gerlaw, Illinois, who was unable to be present for the funeral because of illness.
---Those that are left to mourn are a grandson, Harry C. Allingham, son of Otis E. and Sadie Timmons Allingham. Harry had been living with his mother in Colorado, his sister, Mrs. Florence Mabel Porter and the following nieces and nephews: Ross W. Porter, Lawton, Oklahoma, Fred H. Porter, Kirkwood, Illinois, Arch J. Porter, Onedia, Illinois, George A. Porter, Alexis, Illinois, Charles A. Porter, Hannibal, Ralph L Porter, Gerlaw, Illinois, Harry W. Porter, Fort Worth, Texas and Horatio Porter, Hannibal, Mrs. Mary Morris and Mrs. Harry Risser, Chariton, Iowa and Mrs. Fred Krallenburg of El Paso, Texas.
---Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the La Plata Christian Church at 2:00, conducted by Rev. Dannie Martin, pastor of the church. Interment was made in the La Plata cemetery.
