WELL KNOWN OLD TIME RESIDENT IS CALLED BY DEATH

Mrs. Louis G. Bracey Dies at Age of 91 Years.

One of the oldest and most highly regarded citizens of Monroe died at 1:30 o'clock this morning in the passing at her home at 403 Jackson street, of Mrs. Louise G. Bracey, aged 91 years. Despite her great age, she has been active in mind and body until very recently when the inroads of advancing age caused her fatal illness.

Mrs. Bracey was a native of Tennessee and was married to Dr. James Bracey as a young woman. They lived during their early married life in Marion, La. Althought they had children of their own, they took into their home and raised three children left orphans by the death of Mr. and Mrs. Mims, of Marion, the children being their nieces and nephew.

One of these later became Mrs. Sallie Breard, mother of the present city commissioner, D. A. Breard, jr. Dr. and Mrs. Bracey bestowed upon them all the care and affection of real parents.

When the Civil war broke out, the Braceys went to Texas where they remained until the end of the conflict between the states, then removed to Louisiana and settled in Monroe in the late sixties. For a number of years, their plantation home was on the site of the present St. Francis sanitarium.

It was there that Miss Sallie Mims and D.A. Breard, sr., were united in marriage. This union joined two of the leading families of the city. It is recalled that the young couple made their original home in a hewn log house that stood on the present Riverside and not far from the present home of Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Breard, jr.

Mrs. Bracey survived her niece and foster-daughter, Mrs. Sallie Breard, by nearly a year, the death of the latter occurring on November 2, 1927.

For the past 18 or 20 years, Mrs. Bracey had lived at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kate L. McLain at 403 Jackson street where her death occurred. Dr. Bracey died about 25 years ago.

Mrs. Bracey was highly regarded for her sterling traits of character and a large circle of people will deeply regret her passit for it was to her to whom many were accustomed to go for counsel and sympathy which was always given in unstinting manner.

Surviving are four children, all of Monroe. They are Hugh L. Bracey and W. B. Bracey, Mrs. B. G. Williams and Mrs. Kate L. McLain.

Mrs. Bracey was a member for a long period of time of Grace Episcopal church where the funeral is to be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. E. F. Hayward will officiate and interment will be made in the family plot in the city cemetery.
