PILOT MOUNTAIN - Mr. Harvey Hunter, 93, of Old Westfield Road, Pilot Mountain, passed away Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born Nov. 9, 1911, in Surry County to John Edgar and Rosa Lee Adams Hunter. As a young man, he was an ambitious basketball player whose aspirations were interrupted by the Great Depression era. He dedicated his remaining years to his family through hard work. Mr. Hunter worked as floor manager at Cooks Tobacco Warehouse for 35 years and raised tobacco and cattle until he retired. He was a member of Westfield Friends Meeting for 70 years and was an elder and taught Sunday school for many years. He believed in clean simple living, honesty and family values, which he demonstrated to all of us throughout his life. Mr. Hunter is survived by his wife of 70 years, Addie Chilton Hunter, of the home; two daughters, Cindy Hunter of Charlotte and Gail Hodgin of Pleasant Garden; a son, Harold Hunter of New Bern; a brother, Johnny Mondale Hunter of Pilot Mountain; a sister, Virgie Inez Hunter Love of Siloam; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Hunter was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robah Howard Hunter, Valna Ralph Hunter and Gene O. Hunter; and three sisters, Sally Kathrene Hunter Love, Rena Hunter Eaton and Artie Anzelene Hunter Jester. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, at Westfield Friends Meeting with Pastor James Parker and the Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating. He will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow at Westfield Friends Meeting Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour following the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Westfield Friends Meeting, 3161 Old Westfield Road, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041. The Hunter family is being served locally by Cox-Needham Funeral Home of Pilot Mountain.
