Donald L. Hoover, 86, Altoona, died Sun., Jan. 23, 2011 at home. He was born in Altoona to B. Paul & Marie C. (Diehl) Hoover. Survived by children: Gary A. Hoover & wife, Nicolette, of Duncansville and Cheryl L. Kerns & husband, Bob, of Altoona; grandchildren: Christen Huber and Curtis Hoover; gr. granddaughter, Chyla Huber; and a very good friend, Grace Werner and her daughter, Lisa Slate. Predeceased by brother, Benjamin Hoover. Donald was of the Lutheran faith. He was a 1942 graduate of Altoona High School. Medic, 94th Signal Battalion, Medical Dept., U.S. Army, WWII veteran, European theater of operations. He also was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He retired as a salesman for Automotive Supply Co. in 1986 after 23 years of service. Donald was a baseball player in the Altoona Greater City League for many years. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 430, Portage; Swiss Club and Bavarian Aid Society, both Altoona. Gilden Barton Funeral Home, 1401 Ninth Ave., Altoona. Interment, Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
