Services for Tyrus R. Oney of Rockford, formerly of Wyoming, 41, were held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon in Kidd Funeral House in Toulon, with burial in Toulon Cemetery.
Oney was one of two Rockford men killed in an airplane crash about midnight last Wendesday when they attempted to land in fog at the Ropp Airport, near Hillsdale.
Oney, pilot of the plane, son of Wickliff and Charlotte Elkins Oney, of rural Wyoming and his passenger Alvin L. Griffey, Jr., apparently were instantly killed.
The plane had taken off from the airport in dense fog to go to Rockford just prior to the crash. Evidently the pilot decided to turn back because of the fog and in his attempt to land, the plane struck a truck which was parked near the east end of the runway.
There was one eyewitness to the crash. He was Clifford M. Oney of Hillsdale, a brother of the pilot.
Oney was born in rural Wyoming April 25, 1926, and attended Wyoming schools. He had lived in Snareville prior to moving to Rockford.
Surviving besides the parents are his wife, Lilly Blair Oney, and four daughters, all of Rockford. One son preceded him in death.
