MARY JEANNETT WILSON DUNLAP was born 1924 in Memphis, TN. She graduated from South Side High School in 1942 and that same year attended the Memphis Academy of Arts. Shortly thereafter, she felt called to an accelerated program of nurses training for World War II duties. She did private duty nursing for a short while before she joined the Veterans Administration and worked at the Veterans Hospital for more than twenty years as a floor nurse and supervisor. In April 1962, she married James Bronson Dunlap and resigned her position with the hospital. The two were happily married until Jim's death on November 8, 1981. Mrs. Dunlap gave up her home and moved to Wesley Highland Towers where she did extensive volunteer work for the residents. It was during these years that she took up her art work again doing more than two dozen oil paintings, most of which depicted the Life of Christ. There were several showings of these paintings at a variety of churches and nursing homes. The paintings remain in storage. In 2001, Mrs. Dunlap suffered a fall, breaking her ankle. It was then that she came to Quince Nursing Home for rehabilitation. After a short time back at Wesley Housing, Mrs. Dunlap returned to Quince for full time care until her death on Tuesday evening, May 1. She leaves her brother, Dr. Thomas R. Wilson, Jr., and his wife, Mary Louise of Collierville; a niece, Susan Wilson of Limington, ME; a nephew, Daniel R. Wilson, and family, of Benton, AR; a beloved nephew-in-law, Dr. Alex Dunlap, and family; and a niece-in-law, Susannah Keck and family, all of West Memphis, AR. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the Piperton United Methodist Church. Memorial Park Funeral Home (Published in The Commercial Appeal 5/3/2007)
