Ruben Rowe was born on May 8, 1809 to Johan George Rau, Jr. and Maria Magdalena Frey Rau in Lowhill, now Lehigh County, PA. He was baptized on July 2, 1809.

Sometime between 1830 when Ruben became 21, and October 21, 1832 when he married his second wife, Fayetta Henry, Ruben's first wife died, perhaps during childbirth. Her name and place of interment are unknown at this time. Ruben and Fayetta had two children, Rudolphus and Jackson, while living in Pennsylvania.

In 1840, Ruben and his family were living near his brother, Nathaniel, in Austintown, Ohio. By 1850, the Ruben family already included five children. In both 1850 and 1860, the Ruben Rowe family were living in Warren Twp., Ohio. Ruben was working as a farmer. In an 1856 map of Trumbull County, there is a "R. Row" shown in the northwest portion of Warren Township in Section 10 near the Parkman Road. Sometime before 1870, Ruben moved his family to Southington Twp. in Trumbull County. In 1870 Ruben's farm consisted of 103 acres of improved land, and 25 acres of woodland. He owned two horses, four milk cows, three head of cattle, and three swine. Ruben's farm produced 28 bushels of winter wheat, 100 bushels of ears of Indian corn, and 200 bushels of oats. An 1874 plat map of Southington Twp. shows Ruben's farm in Sections 33 and 35, and west of the Barnum Road. Ruben was still farming there at the time of the 1880 U.S. Census.

Ruben Rowe died on September 4, 1885 (his obituary and probate record differ on his date of death by one day). He was survived by his wife and five children, Jackson having died in 1874.

Fayetta Henry Rowe was Ruben's (Reuben's) second wife.

On page 19 of the bicentennial book, The History of Southington, Ohio, 1805 – 2005, is a discussion about an 1830's list of women "who died before their time," including the wife of Reuben Row. Unfortunately, there was no reference source provided for this list in the book. The marriage date of October 21, 1832 for Reuben and his second wife narrows down the time period when Reuben's first wife died ( after May 8, 1830 when Reuben was 21). She may have died in child birth in about 1831.
