Donald F. Simanski, 80, of Red Wing, died Friday, January 28, 2011, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.

He was born Nov. 3, 1930 in Belle Creek, Minnesota to Adolph and Gudrun (Johnson) Simanski and attended school in the area. He began working as a farmhand throughout the areas of Kenyon, Wanamingo and Zumbrota. On Oct. 6, 1956, he married Carol Karsten in Morristown, Minnesota and they made their home in Red Wing. He worked for the Red Wing Flour Mill for 25 years and then worked for the City of Red Wing at the incinerator, retiring in 1995. After retiring, he stayed busy doing odd jobs and helping out his friends. He was an accomplished horseshoe thrower, and had played on several leagues. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and following the local high school sporting events. He was a member of United Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Carol of Red Wing; three children, Keith (Deborah) Simanski of Apple Valley, Kevin (Margaret) Simanski of Red Wing and Brenda Wicks of Kansas City, Kansas; 8 grandchildren, Patrick, Thomas, Chris and Kelsey Simanski, Katie (Ryan) Hilgers and April, Joshua and Jacob Wicks; 3 great-grandchildren Kellan, Stella and Sadie; 3 siblings, Jim (Beverly) of White Bear Lake, Lois Dahling and Robert (Jean) Simanski both of Red Wing; sister-in-law, Lois Simanski of Red Wing and many loving friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Vernon Simanski and a sister, Jane Wettern.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb.3 2011 at United Lutheran Church with Reverend Steve Timm officiating. Burial will be at Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to donor's choice.
