Ada was the eldest daughter of Catherine M. Kohler (1861-1944) and John Frederick Black (born 1862, death unknown).

She married James E. Kelly on 5 Nov 1906 in Cooks, Schoolcraft, Michigan.

James was the oldest son of Hugh Kelly and Rebecca Jane Mctaggert.

In 1917 Ada's younger sister Almyra Marie married James' younger brother Arthur William.

James and Ada had at least seven children before his death in 1958.
