“Jerome Hinds, an aged resident of the town of Springfield, died in the village of East Springfield, Thursday, March 10, at the home of Bert Van Hoesen, where he had lived for a number of years. He was born on the farm now occupied by Chester McRorie, on Stewart's Patent. Mr. Hinds was among the pioneers in the art of photography and for many years was engaged in the profession with his uncle in Schenectady, and was for some time 'positionist' in the famous Tiffany studios in New York City. For some years he traveled through the country purchasing of photographers their refuse print paper, which he burned for the valuable residuum it contained. Mr. Hinds never married but is survived by his nephews, Theodore F. Hinds of Richfield Springs and George E. Allen of Frankfort; two nieces, Mrs. M. L. Clark and Mrs. W. A. Smith of Richfield Springs; two grand-nephews, Dr. Fred W. Smith of Utica, and George Hancock of Springfield Centre, and a grand-niece, Marian H. Smith of Richfield Springs. The funeral service was held Saturday afternoon from the residence of his nephew, Theodore F. Hinds, Rev. A. H. Grant officiating, interment to be made in the Lake View cemetery.” [“The Freeman's Journal” (Cooperstown, NY), Mar. 19, 1910, Page 1]
