In 1874 he removed from his home in Pennsylvania to Chicago where he was employed as conductor on the old horse-drawn street cars. From there he went to Sycamore, Ill. His employment there as implement salesman took him into Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. He located in Iowa in 1876, where he has since resided.
