Dr. James B., died at 12:30am, Tuesday, March 8th, at his home after several weeks of severe illness. Dr. Boren was born in Ennis, Texas on November 16, 1905. He married his high school sweetheart, Una Lee Hamilton, and together they graduated from Fletcher High School. Mrs. Boren passed away in January, 1982. In the early years of their marriage, he served as Pastor of the Methodist Churches in Wheatland and Franklin and later, the Frisco Methodist Church in Chickasha. He served as Superintendent of several Oklahoma schools prior to becoming President of Southwestern State College at Weatherford, Oklahoma. Later he moved to Texas where he served as President of Midwestern University, Wichita Falls, Texas, for over thirteen years. S ince 1953 he has been active in various areas of operation within the oil industry. ""Dr. Jim'' was widely known as an educator, humanitarian, and a speaker whose words flowed with poetic beauty. He was a faithful member and teacher of the Couples Class at St. Luke's Methodist Church, as well as a member of that church. He had several degrees including a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education from Oklahoma City Univeristy; a Master of Education from the University of Oklahoma; a Doctor of Philosop hy from the University of Texas; a Doctor of Humanities from Oklahoma City University and a Doctor of Laws from Austin College. He is survived by three children, Marilyn Stewart, Oklahoma City, OK, James H. Boren, Annandale, VA., and Gene Boren, Hurst, T X, as well as eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by five brothers and one sister.
