STERLING—Richard K. Cullom, 82, of 710 W. LeFevre Apt. 105, Sterling, died Saturday, May 27, 2000, at his residence. Mr. Cullom ws born Aug. 8, 1917, in Nashville, Tenn., the son of Edward Hall and Lillian (Shaw) Cullom. He graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville, Tenn. He married Dorothy E. Buchanan on April 4, 1941, in Nashville, Tenn. She preceded him in death on Aug. 1, 1993. During World War II, he was director of subcontract purchasing for Goodyear in Akron, Ohio, when they were producing airplanes for the war. In September of 1947, he moved to Columbus, Ohio, where he became assistant sales manager for Lenox Furnace Co., and went on to general manager of a division of Lenox. In 1956, he moved to Michigan City, Ind., and was vice presidnet of Gerwin Industries, Inc. In 1966, he became president of Gerwin Industries, Inc. which was by then a division of Leigh Products, Inc. In 1971 he moved to corporate headquarters in Coopersville, Mich., and became vice presidnet of Marketing Development. He moved to Sterling in 1973 where he has worked as a marketing analyst, and a graphic artist, as well as, producing many works of art throughout the Sauk Valley. Mr. Cullom has served as an elder on five sessions of the Presbyterian Church in both Michigan City and here in Sterling. Survivors include two daughters, Carroll (Richard) Barkow of Michigan City, Ind., and Susan Hall of Thornton, Colo.; one son, Richard Cullom of Seattle; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial can be given to the charity of choice.
