Biography by Diana Druback

Evangeline Anna Thomae* was born on April 16, 1899 at 374 Bowery (alley) in New York City. Her birth certificate gives the name Adelina Thomae and her baptism record gives the name Angeline Ida Thomae. She was baptized on September 1, 1901 at the German Evangelical Mission Church located at 141 East Houston in New York City. She was the fifth of seven children born to Albin Hy Thomae (1864-1904) and Anna Hulda Riedel (1874-1937). Both her parents were German immigrants. Her father was a musical instrument and a violin maker and died when Anna was just five years old. Her mother married Charles Armitage Morgan about a year later. The family lived in Brooklyn, New York. Anna eloped with Thomas Blake (1886-1965) on December 20, 1915 in Hoboken, New Jersey. Her mother was quite upset. She had wanted Anna to become a school teacher. Anna was just sixteen years old and Thomas was twenty-nine, when they married. Thomas was an immigrant from Plymouth, England. They raised five children, Thomas (1917-1981), Hilda (1920-2011), Evangeline (Lynn), Charles 1925-2008), and Albin (1927-2005) at 123 Duke Street in Kearny, New Jersey. The family attended Christ Church in Harrison, New Jersey. They went on a trip to Canada and they also enjoyed camping and fishing. Despite having been born in the United States Anna lost her citizenship when she married Thomas, because he was an alien. On September 9, 1935, Ann was naturalized in the District Court of the United States at Newark, New Jersey, certificate number 4330002. Anna and Thomas owned and operated E.A. Blake General Trucking. Through the depression Anna worked many part-time jobs. Anna and Thomas separated in 1942 and later divorced. In 1944 and 1945, she lived at 106 Jersey Street in Harrison, New Jersey. Evangeline married Stacy Everett Partrick (1890-1961) on August 14, 1948 at the Roseville Methodist Church in Newark, New Jersey. Stacy was a conductor for the Central Railroad of New Jersey for forty years. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Conductors and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. Evangeline and Stacy lived at 138 Port Monmouth Road in Port Monmouth, New Jersey. They enjoyed taking car trips around the United States. Stacy died on May 10, 1961 and is remembered as a very dear gentle person. Thomas, Evangeline's first husband, died in 1965. Evangeline made the best sauerbraten or pot roast. Unfortunately, the recipe was never written down. Evangeline was a fun loving person and was involved in many organizations, the Republican Party as a county committee woman, Eastern Star, Ladies Auxiliary to the V.F.W., Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Order of Shepherds of Bethlehem, Bayshore Civic Association, the Belford Methodist Church, and the Middletown Township Senior Citizens Leisure Time Group, just to name a few. Evangeline died on January 9,1990 at the Eatontown Convalescent Home at the age of 90. Eastern Star members gave a funeral service for her and she was interred on January 12, 1990 at the Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover, New Jersey in Section Elm, Block C, Plot 223, Grave 6.
