Walter C. Roth Sr., a lifelong resident of Port Chester, died January 29, 2011.

He was eighty-nine and was born September 26, 1921 in Port Chester to the late Casper Joseph and Margaret Johanna Holly Roth. He graduated from Port Chester High School and then served in the United States Army during World War II in Central Burma and India.

He was married to Vivian Joye on October 27, 1951 at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church. When he returned from World War II, he started Roth Nursery with his brother Edward in 1948 in Armonk, NY. Walter never retired and was still an active part of the nursery.

He was a member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Rye Brook, NY and was a member of the Port Chester Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Roth is survived by his wife Vivian Roth of Port Chester, NY, sons Walter C. Roth and wife Suzanne of Bedford, NY, Thomas W. Roth and wife Diane of Armonk, NY, and Karl D. Roth of Pleasantville, NY, daughters Patricia J. Quell and husband Frederick of Port Chester, NY, and Karen G. Hodge and husband Cliff of Port Chester, NY, brother Edward Roth of Greenwich, CT, sister Ruth Coupe of Rye Brook, NY, grandchildren, Monica and husband Daniel, Walter III, Kristin and husband Michael, Cynthia, Kimberly, Holly, Thomas, Jason, and Kara. He was predeceased by his brothers Alfred, George, and Robert Roth and sisters Margaret Kutka, Helen Neill, Mildred Dunphy, and Catherine Ruth.

A visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 31, 2011 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2010 in Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, 761 King Street at Comley Avenue, Rye Brook, NY.
Interment will follow in Greenwood Union Cemetery, Rye, NY.
