Sylvia and John Hailey opened their home to Mary Veola ("Ola" - her nickname in childhood) after Mary's mother, Martha (also called Mattie) died when Mary was just 11 years old. Mary considered John & Sylvie's children (her cousins) like brothers & sisters. Ola helped take care of the younger children. Ola remembered a baby girl of aunt Sylvie's died in infancy.
