Mae Lee, age 89, of Goodrich, Kansas, died January 30, 2011 at her home.
She was born September 4, 1921 in her paternal grandparents' home at rural Franklin
County, Kansas, the daughter of Charles and Nellie Edna (Adams) Reed. She graduated
from Paola High School with the Class of 1941.
She was united in marriage to Robert Emerson Lee on October 22, 1941 at Paola, Kansas.
They became the parents of four children. They made their home in Osawatomie until
1953 and then moved to a farm near Beagle. They moved to Centerville in 1977. Mae
moved to Goodrich in 2002.
She worked in several restaurants in Paola before she was married. She worked at the
Osawatomie State Hospital as a psychiatric aide from September of 1949 through
October of 1950, October of 1952 through May of 1953, August of 1954 through
February of 1958, and again from January of 1961 until April of 1963.
She was a member of the Faith Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Eastern
Star in Parker, Fontana, and LaCygne for over 50 years. She was a 4-H leader many
years for the Osage Rustlers and Mound Builders 4-H Clubs.
She had several hobbies throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed oil painting sceneries and
still life, quilting, ceramics, embroidery, puzzle books, and jig-saw puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers Donald, Merlin,
and Emmett Reed, one sister Elnora Jones, one grandson Lawrence DuWayne Lee who
died at the age of 7 months and 12 days, and one great grandson Trever Curtis Lee who
was two years old.
She is survived by two sons Robert E. Lee, Jr. of Fontana and Roger Lee of Wellsville;
two daughters Sharon Bowman of Goodrich and Ninetta Johnson of Parker; one sister
Dolly Martin of Osawatomie; 9 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 8 great-great
grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Eddy-Birchard
Funeral Home, Osawatomie. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, February 2,
2011 at Eddy-Birchard. Burial will be in the Goodrich Cemetery. Memorials are to the
Midland Hospice or Miami County Cancer Foundation.
