Death came Monday evening, May 12, 1952, at the house of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Schraeder at Dodge City, to Alexander Montgomery Black, aged 83, who for many years has been a resident of Douglass. He had been sick for a long time. Not long ago he was taken from his home here to Dodge City.
Mr. Black has been a resident of Douglass for 40 years or more. He came with his family from New York. He followed the occupation of a carpenter for many years until poor health caused him to retire.
Alexander Montgomery Black, son of Charles and Frances Barnes Black, was born June 24, 1868 at Geneva, New York. There he grew to manhood and married Marian Reeves. With their small children they migrated west and settled in Douglass.
Surviving Mr. Black are his wife and three children, Mrs. Frances Schraeder of Dodge City; Ed Black of Douglass and Reeves Black of New York City; also a sister in California. There are several grandchildren.
One son Judson, is deceased.
"Alec" Black, as he was known to his many, many friends here, was a good artisan and a good friend and citizen. He always had a hearty greeting and smile.
Funeral services were set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hilyard Funeral Home in Douglass, conducted by Rev. Everett Mitchell, pastor of the Methodist Church, Burial in Douglass Cemetery in charge of Hilyard Funeral Home.
