John Lockwood, beloved husband, father, brother and uncle, died at Portland Adventist Medical Center. Born in Greenburgh, N.Y., to Charles and Elizabeth Lockwood, John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Ann Lockwood (nee Huha) of Gresham; sons, Jeffrey of Portland and John Jr., of Tarrytown, N.Y.; and sister, Evelyn Novotny of Greenburgh, N.Y. John was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II. He became a sergeant as a radio operator in the 897th Field Artillary Battalion, 75th Infantry Division. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and received a unit meritorious service award "for superior performance of duty." After the war, John received a Bachelor of Science from New York University. He became a house builder in Westchester and Putnam counties in New York. His interests included gardening, music and world politics. John had a charming personality and sense of humor. All who knew him will miss him forever. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sierra Club.
