Graveside service is to be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Carlsbad Cemetery for Freeman M. Speed, 76, 2702 Western Way, who died Tuesday at his home.
The Rev. Peter Hartman of the Carlsbad Mennonite Church is to officiate, with Denton Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Born July 12, 1912, in Benton, Ark., he attended school there, moving to Carlsbad in the 1940s. He married Lujuana Jo White here on Nov. 19, 1961. He was a miner at the IMC potash mine for 45 years, retiring in 1977. He enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Speed, Carlsbad; a son, Tracy Speed, Carlsbad, three daughters, Shirley Watkins of Fort Worth, Texas, and Jean Jackson and Terry Drake, both of Carlsbad; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
