Howard served in the Civilian Conservation Corps for two years from 1934-1936 in Mellen. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943-1945 in the South Pacific Theatre. He was a medical aidman attached to an infantry unit under combat conditions in Bougainville and the Philippines and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts.
He was employed by the Madison Silo Company for 35 years, retiring as Sales Manager. Howdy was an avid sportsman, and enjoyed golf and curling for many years.
He was a member of VFW Post 7591, the Lodi American Legion Post 216, the Civilian Conservation Corps Alumni Association, the Madison Curling Club and First Lutheran Church in Lodi.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lynda; his parents; his siblings, Arthur, Wayne (Carol), Mabel (Russ) Neugent and infant twins Hugh and Helen; and a brother-in-law, Wayne Brown.
