ABEL, James, S.M. Age 78, of Dayton, Ohio, died January 6, 2011 at Hospice of Dayton. Born February 15, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois, son of the late D. Herbert and Ann (Pfeiffer) Abel. He was preceded in death by his brother, John. He is survived by his brother Joseph and Mary Jane Abel of Chicago, Illinois and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim entered the Society of Mary and professed first vows September 8, 1950 at Marcy, NY and perpetual vows on August 15, 1956 at the University of Dayton. Graduated from the University of Dayton with a B.S. in Education in 1954. Brother Jim taught and served as business manager at several high schools, including St. Joseph High School and Cathederal Latin High School, both in Cleveland, OH; Chaminade High School in Mineola, NY and Chaminade High School in Dayton, Ohio; and nearly 40 years at Purcell High School (later Purcell Marian) in Cincinnati, OH. He taught a variety of subjects, including Special Education, Typing, Business, and Drama. He was also an Assistant Principal. He was especially well known for the numerous dramatic productions he directed at Purcell Marian High School. He lived in retirement at Alumni Hall at the University of Dayton briefly when in 2008 illness brought him to Mercy Siena in Dayton. Visitation will take place at Queen of Apostles Chapel at Mt. St. John between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2011 followed by the Mass of Christian Burial and the Burial at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Mt. St. John, Dayton, OH. Arrangements by BRADFORD-CONNELLY & GLICKLER FUNERAL HOME.
