In the 1850 U.S. Census, Mary (as Emeline) and her sister, Sarah Eleanor Lucas (1826-1906), were living with their maternal uncle, Col. Robert Lucas (1795-1880).

Mary married Joseph Addison Craighill, Sr., (26 Jan 1810 - 23 Apr 1875) on 22 Nov 1852 at the residence of her uncle, Col. Robert Lucas, near Shepherdstown, Jefferson County, (now) West Virginia. Joseph was born in West Virginia.

In the 1860 U.S. Census, Joseph and Mary were living in Georgetown, Washington, DC, and he had no occupation listed.

At one time, Joseph was the secretary to Mary's uncle, William Lucas (1800-1877), when he was in the U.S. Congress.

Joseph served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War.

In the 1870 U.S. Census, Joseph and Mary were living in Shepherdstown, Jefferson County, West Virginia, and he was a farmer. Mary’s sister, Sarah Lucas, was living with them in 1870. Sarah died unmarried and is buried with Mary.

According to the record of his death, Joseph died on 22 Apr 1875 of pneumonia and he was a farmer.

2) Joseph Addison Craighill, Jr., (8 Feb 1855 - 19 Oct 1881) was born in Washington, DC. He is #31254836.

3) William Price Craighill (12 Mar 1857 - 16 Nov 1881) was born in Washington, DC. He is #31255197.
