MILTON -- Jay Elwood Rowe, 84, of 315 1/2 Broadway, died Friday, April 27, 2007, at the Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
A native of Union County, he was born in Lewisburg, on March 29, 1923, a son of the late C. Cleve and Edith (Klingman) Rowe. He was married to the former Betty Zimmerman and his death breaks a marital union of 63 years.
Jay was a graduate of Lewisburg High School.
He served in the army during World War II with the 10th Armored Division in Germany and France.
Jay retired from the ACF Industries, Milton, 22 years ago as a stencil cutter.
He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Milton.
He was also a member of the Wallace W. Fetzer Post No. 71 American Legion, Milton.
Jay enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and doing his yard work.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jay Elwood Jr. and Lisha Rowe of Morgantown; four grandchildren, Coby J. Rowe and his wife Debbie, Kistin and her husband Ian Smith, Felicity and her husband John Groth, and Emery Rowe; four great-grandchildren, Garrett Rowe, Aiden Smith, Kyra Smith and Anastazia Groth; one sister, Jean Hafer of New Columbia; one brother, Leon Rowe of Montandon; nieces; and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Arlene Mensch and Betty Daubert; and five brothers, Thurwell Rowe, Glenn Rowe, Kenneth Rowe, Donald Rowe and Robert Rowe.
Friends and relatives will be received from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Friday at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Milton. The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. with his pastor, the Rev. Cheryl L. Berner, officiating.
Burial will be in Dreisbach Church Cemetery.
The family will provide flowers and asks that donations be made in Jay's memory to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 Mahoning St., Milton, PA 17847.
