Ernest Dulak, age 82 of Speegleville, died Friday evening, September 8, 2000 in Olin E. Teague Veterans Center in Temple, after a lengthy illness.

Graveside Services were held 2 p.m. Monday in St. Martin's Cemetery in Tours, with the Rev. Melvin Dornak officiating with Military Graveside Rites conducted by V.F.W. Post No. 4819 of West.

His wife, Lillie Winkler Dulak prededed him in death in 1991.

Ernest was born July 26, 1918 in Tokio, Texas. He served in the United States Army from 1936-1945, Battery C, 12th Field Artillery, 2nd (Indian Head) Infantry Division. He served combat in the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), Normandy Invasion, Northern France, Rhineland (Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen) and Central Europe, proudly wearing 5 Battle Stars.

After the war, he was employed at the Waco VA Medical Center and later became a self-employed concrete General Contractor, operating as Dulak Construction. He was an active member of St. Mary's and St. Louis Catholic Churches and a life member of the VFW. He enjoyed time spent with his family, farming his 30 acres in Speegleville, working in the garden, visiting with neighbors, his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, watching baseball games and playing dominoes.

Survivors include one son, Ernest Dulak, Jr. and daughter-in-law Evelyn of Hewitt; one daughter, Patsy Kilgore and son-in-law O. Luke of Hewitt; five grandchildren, Kathy kilgore Shelburne of Hewitt, David Dulak of Houston, Jeff Kilgore of Lorena, Raymond Dudlak of Waco and John Kilgore of McGregor; two great-grandchildren, Clay Shelburne and Morgan Dulak; two step-great-grandchildren, Jordon and Taylor Ross; three sisters, Paulene Novosad of Corpus Christi, Mary Brown of Mathis and Regina Zatopek of Austin.

Pallbearers were David Dulak, Jeff Kilgore, Raymond Dulak, John Kilgore, Clay Shelburne, Frank Dulak, Jr. and Clint Shelburne.

The family has requested memorials be made to St. Martin's Cemetery Association.

Kotch Funeral Home in West was in charge of arrangements.
