Pfc. U.S. Army, Vietnam War-Pfc. Ballew was killed in action on 4-13-1968 in the Quang Tin Province of South Vietnam while serving with Co. A of the 3rd Battalion of the 21st Infantry Regiment of the 196th Infantry Brigade of the Americal Division. Pfc. Ballew started his tour in Vietnam on March 7, 1968.
He is the son of Mr. William L. Ballew of Wilmington, Illinois & Mrs. Lucinda Jane Powell of 819 South West Jefferson Street, Peoria, Illinois, and the husband of Mrs. Shirley Ballew of R.R. #1, Box, 272, Lake City, Tennessee.
He enlisted in the Army on September 14, 1967, and did his training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and did his AIT at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He left many brothers and sisters.
Awards: Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with One Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal.
