Jack Gilruth Harris passed away on January 30, 2011 at Osprey Pointe in McMinnville, Oregon. His wife, Carol, was at his side. Memorial services will be held at the Chapel of Macy & Son on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 10:30 AM with interment following at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, from 2 pm to 7pm at the Chapel.

Jack, son of Ernest and Mary Harris, was born on January 21, 1928 in Great Falls, Montana. He attended grade school in Bynum, Montana and high school in Teton County, Montana. In 1946 Jack and Carol Safty were married. Also in 1946, Jack attended Great Falls Academy of Beauty Culture, receiving his licensing in 1947. He attended Northern Montana State University in Havre, Montana, receiving his BS Degree in 1969. Jack and Carol lived in Havre, Montana until 1969; they then moved to Silverton, Oregon. In 1974 they moved to McMinnville, Oregon. Later on in 1974 he attended Portland State in Portland, Oregon earning 35 credits. In 1977-1979 they lived in Gresham, Oregon. In 1979 they returned to McMinnville, Oregon.

Jack's hobbies early on were flying, fishing and camping. Later in life he enjoyed woodworking, computers, playing cards, cribbage and traveling. Jack also enjoyed being with his family. Jack was also very active in his church, St. James Catholic Church.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 64 years, Carol of McMinnville; his 5 children; Robert Harris of McMinnville, Oregon; Dianna Simmons of Gig Harbor, Washington; James Harris of Lincoln, Illinois; Susan Harris of Salem, Oregon; and Daniel Harris of Salem, Oregon;12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Mary Harris and a brother, Robert.
