SAN ANGELO Gary Lopez Acevedo went to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at the age of 44. He was born April 25, 1966, in San Angelo, Texas. He graduated from Central High School in 1985. Gary is survived by his two daughters, Julia Rivera and son-in-law Damian from San Diego, Calif., and Emeress Acevedo of Del Rio; son Bryan Acevedo of Del Rio, Texas; mother Fina Acevedo and father Herbert Acevedo and stepmother Teresa; a sister, Michelle Acevedo Castro and husband Danny; a dear friend, Isabell Garza, all of San Angelo; he was blessed with a beautiful grandson, Jaden Rivera of San Diego, Calif., that he loved so much; his two favorite nieces, Tiffani and Sydni Castro of San Angelo. Gary did internship in 1986 in Washington D.C., was elected to the San Angelo City Council for Precinct 1 at the age of 21, he held office for 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1991. He was instrumental in changing the San Angelo ISD school board into a single member district. He was a county commissioner in 1994-1998 for Precinct 1. Gary was a proud Democrat and love to talk politics. Gary was a hero to many and will continue to be through his last gift of being an organ donor. Pallbearers will be Jerry Soto, Ramon Gonzalez, Robert Gonzalez, Danny Castro, Richard Lomas and Mike Dotson. Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, in Johnson's Funeral Home chapel. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, in Johnson's Funeral Home chapel with burial to follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
