C. Don Schamel died February 1, 2010, in Vancouver, WA.

Charles Don Schamel was born August 28, 1909, in Lohrville, IA. He was the son of Charles and Myrtle (Rodrick) Schamel. He was united in marriage with Jane Storm on September 10, 1936. While living in Milbank, Don worked at the Coast to Coast Store and The Mercantile. He moved to Vancouver, WA in 1945, and worked at the shipyards and sold automobiles. He also worked in decorator installation, even hanging curtains and pictures in the Oregon governor's mansion. Don learned to be an accomplished dancer at Arthur Murray Dance Studios.

Following his retirement, Don spent time helping neighbors, especially elderly neighbors with projects needed to keep their homes in good shape.

After his wife died in 1982, Don continued to live independently in Washington until he reached the age of 100.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law: Marian Storm of Milbank, SD and Dorothy Schamel of Hayward, WI; a foster daughter: Yolanda Serna of San Antonio, TX and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
