He was a Veteran of the Vietnam Era, having joined the United States Navy on January 10, 1966 at Portland, Oregon. John served for six years, until January 9, 1972, when he received his discharge at the rank of ADJ2.
John was united in marriage to Sharon L. Rhymes on December 31, 1966 in Andalusia, Alabama. They celebrated their 44th Wedding Anniversary this past December. Following their marriage they resided in Pensacola, Florida for three years until 1970 when they moved to Portland. In 1978 they moved to their present home in the Dilley community, where they have resided since.
He had worked for Emmert International as Transportation Safety Manager for the past several years.
Among his special interests he enjoyed fishing, camping with his family, and HO trains. John also was an awesome mechanic and enjoyed bowling, as he participated in the Fraternal League at Rainbow Lanes for many years.
John was preceded in death by two grandchildren, John Miller, IV. and Angela Gonzales.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon R. Miller, of the family home in Dilley, Oregon; his parents, Stuart and Lillian Miller, of Hillsboro, Oregon; his four children and their spouses, Tamani Gonzales, of Keizer, Oregon; John, III. and Tami Miller, of Hillsboro, Oregon; LaTrisha and Joe Zmuda, of Forest Grove, Oregon; and Dylona and Jason Flaherty, of Sherwood, Oregon; his brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Bryan and Kay Lynn Miller, of Aloha, Oregon; and his three sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorlynn and DeVerne Sisbach, of Estacada, Oregon; Lorrell Taylor, of Gaston, Oregon; and Tove Kenzer, of Forest Grove, Oregon.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Destanie Miller-Gonzales, Jamie Gonzales-Mauch, Linzie Gonzales, NevaeH Gonzales, Marrisa Miller, Kylah Flaherty and Kallie Flaherty; three great-grandchildren, MariaH-Lee Gonzales, Jimi Gonzales-Goswitz and Thiago Gonzales-Goswitz and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, in Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 11 a.m. in Mt. View Memorial Gardens, Forest Grove.
